DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION

The LAD protects employees from disability discrimination. Disability is very broad under the LAD. Disability includes any physical disability, any mental, psychological or developmental. It also includes physical illness or disease. You are protected from termination because of disability in cases where you are performing your job.

PREGNANCY OR GENDER    DISCRIMINATION

Pregnancy discrimination is prohibited by the LAD. This means that your employer cannot treat pregnant employees any differently than other workers who have medical issues that affect their work. An employer cannot treat you differently, deny you benefits, or privileges of employment based on your gender.

RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION

Religious discrimination involves treating an employee differently or unequally because of his or her religious beliefs. The LAD prohibits employers from discriminating against individuals because of their religion or lack of religious belief, in hiring, firing, pay, job assignment, promotions, training or any other condition of employment.

AGE DISCRIMINATION

Under the LAD, discrimination based on age is unlawful. Are you an older worker who has been pushed out and replaced by a younger employee? Are you being treated differently because of your age? If so, you may be the victim of age discrimination.

RACE AND NATIONAL ORIGIN DISCRIMINATION

An employer cannot fire you, pay you less, treat you unequally or refuse to hire or promote you because of your race, ethnic background, national origin or because you are foreign worker.

SEXUAL ORIENTATION DISCRIMINATION

Sexual orientation discrimination involves harassment or being treated differently based on your perceived or actual sexual orientation. This includes being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

EQUAL PAY DISCRIMINATION

The New Jersey Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying employees in a protected class less than other employees who are not in a protected class. Are you an employee who is paid less because of your gender, race, age, or national origin? If so, you may be a victim of a violation of the Equal Pay Act.
